♥ First job

Yesterday, my cousin’s husband, Gabriel, told me that there was a programmer job. It was his friend’s business. He told me that I must use flash and php for the job. So I agreed. So in the afternoon, he called me and asked me to meet his friend. So when I reached the food court at Anchor Point, he took me to meet his friend where they were having lunch. I opened my laptop and showed my projects in which I have done in my poly to his friend. Then his friend saw the project and asked me those routine questions.

Later, he showed me the things that I was supposed to do for his client’s project and explained the things I need to come up with using flash. And the good thing is that I could do it at home. At first, I told him that I was afraid that I could not do the project but Gabriel suggested why don’t let me try first. So I agreed. I was so happy and excited that I got my first job since graduation. Then I left and went back home to start to do the project.

The first thing I need to do is to install the Flash because I reformatted my laptop before graduation. I had hard time finding the software at the website and installed it. Then I started to do. But I kept having problems in doing because I only learnt the basic of Flash for only 2 lessons during my RP life. After having tried for 2 hours, I was still stuck and Jovin asked me to go library to borrow books if I still don’t know how to do. So we went to library and after borrowing books, she went to my house to help me.

Then I started to do the project again but I still could not get it done so I went to find my cousin, Roy for help. He is a genius and has learnt Flash although he was a secondary 1 student. Then he helped me to do a little bit although he was kind of not sure. As it was really late, so I went home and continued to do but I seemed to really don’t know what I was doing despite having the books for reference.

So today, I went to read the books and see how it works. And I tried on my laptop for 4 hours but I still could not get it right. So I gave up and quitted job as I did not want to waste other people time.

I really thank for my two cousins and Gabriel for supporting me and help me.

Anyways, I would try to figure out how the flash works so that in future, if there is any assignment, I would be able to do it. And throughout these two days, I felt like going back to the time when I was busy doing my project, although it was tired and busy, it was worth it.

Today, in the morning, one Indian guy asked me to go down to Sim Lim Square for an interview. So I went for the interview. But when I reached Sim Lim Square, I did not know where the company was as he did not mention it earlier. So I called him and he told me the place. And I went to the place.

But when I found the place, the shop was kind of like help people to repair the computer. So I went to ask the staff, but he said that the shop did not intend to hire any people. Then I thought that I might be getting the wrong place so I called the person to further confirm the place. But the person said correct ah and I continued to search for the place.

And also, I sms my brother and Jovin to see whether I was in the correct place. After searching for half an hour, I still could not find the place. In the end, I gave up finding the place.

So I went to walk for a while and then I went home. On the way home, I had many thoughts running through in my mind. Like perhaps the person knew that I was talking like that, he might not want to hire me or he could be purposely telling the wrong place to me or anyhow said. But I simply could not understand that why the person was like that, calling me to go down for the interview but he had no intention to hire me. And some more, I have already stated in my resume that I had problems in speaking fluently. It is like giving a person a hope first, then the next moment, disappointing the person. If the person said don’t want to hire me because I am like that, then can tell me. At least, I won’t be wasting my time and my transport fare.

But at least, I tried.

♥ first time going to JB
posted by yukiong on Friday, 20 June 2008 at 3:57 pm.
Today, my mother, my brother and one of his friends, Michelle and I went to JB. It has been a long time since I woke up so early…haha…woke up at 9. Then we started to prepare and went to meet my brother’s friend who was in the mrt station. And so we took mrt to the Kranji station.
As this was the first time I went to JB from Singapore, I was quite excited and at the same time, I was curious to know how it looks like and the local food and places.

In the past, my mother used to take my brother and I to Labuan, which is also part of the Malaysia, when we were small in Brunei. We used to take my uncle’s ship to Labuan as it was his career. It was quite relaxing and at the same time, we could experience the feeling of boarding the ship and enjoyed the breeze and I could smell some salt in the sea.

Back to now, when we reached the Kranji mrt station, we went and waited for the bus that took us to the custom checkpoint. Soon, we reached there and we queued up for checking the passport. There were 2 types of passport checking there. One is the old way which is letting the custom people to chop the passport and the other which is using the thumbprint to check the passport. I find the latter is quite fun and interesting. Also at the custom checkpoint there, the policemen were very fierce.

And soon, we took another bus to JB. When we reached there, I could see people communicate with Malay and there were many taxis waiting at there. The funniest thing is that, almost every taxi driver would ask us if we want to take taxi as we walked down the street. And also, the traffic was somehow different from Singapore. The zebra crossing at there like don’t serve any purpose one because people still need to look at the traffic light, then we can cross. Many shops were selling pirated VCDs there and we also bought some movies.

Then we went to the shopping centre…don’t know what the name is called…and we shopped for 3 hrs. We went to see clothes, buying many food and tibits…like that loh. We had our lunch there and soon we went back, carrying so many things. I was very tired then. Hope that next time, I will go there soon.

Also, after I went home, I went out with Jovin to walk for a while around Queenstown. We went to Ikea and Anchor Point. At the same, we shared our troubles with each other. It was because I guessed the only person that I could share my problems with is she.

Today, as my mother did not need to look after my nephew for about 3 days because my cousin took them to Malaysia trip, so I went with my mother to Queensway shopping centre. I had wanted to buy the slipper only because my one was kind of getting broken le…but we ended up buying three shirts and of course the slipper.

Ok le…tmr my mother, my brother and his friend, Michelle and I still need to go to Malaysia for a day trip...

♥ Life without my brother

These few days, I feel so sian. It is because my brother went to Malaysia for a trip that the NP organized. He would be going there for about 6 days. And so I am very bored at home, only watch tv and playing games. Normally, I would like to talk to him some craps and I would be able to listen to the songs in his Ipod. But now, I practically like somehow unhappy, not mood to do anything and nobody to talk to, except my parents, so sian.

Imagine if he were to go for army for two years in future, I guess I will become even more bored and probably I will become autistic person. I finally realized that my brother had a great impact on me.

♥ NCS interview

Today is the worst day for me…as I didn’t really know where the company was…never been Yio Chu Kang before…so I went there a little bit earlier. When I reached the Yio Chu Kang Mrt…I went to find the company as the address was stated in the paper…but somehow I seemed to can’t find the company…after walking up and down for about 20 min…so I decided to take a cab.

While I was on the cab…I checked my wallet…I found that there was not enough money…so I told the driver and asked him to let me get off…but he said never mind. Probably…he pitied me bah…heng ar…he didn’t not chase me out…because I was in the middle road then…if not I will be too embarrassed.

When I reached there…I went inside…the receptionist asked me to wait there. I was then too nervous already because of the taxi incident. Soon…the interviewer came…and showed me the way to the room. There were two interviewers in the room…two ladies…then they gave me one paper that stated what the job is about…the salary…the working hours.

At the same time…I showed them my qualifications and my results…as I was too nervous…and have not prepared much…they asked me the questions…I didn’t really know how to answer. Like what do you hope to achieve for this job? What are the future career prospects for the job? What are you going to do after doing this temp job? As you all know that I don’t really how to talk or tackle such questions…so I guessed that in future…I may need to really think about these few questions. Also…they sometimes don’t really what I was talking about…so I need to write down on paper occasionally. And I happened to see that one interviewer had actually wrote down on her paper ‘failure…’. So I guessed that this time would also be a fail interview.

But at least, I tried and it taught me a lesson that I would need to prepare to know the answers for the questions that the interviewer will ask normally.

♥ First time first round of interview succeed

On Monday…one staff from the recruit express company…called me…there was a temp tester job…which is about testing the program using sql…asked me whether I am interested. So I agreed…and she said that she would call me back later.

Then yesterday…the same company…but a different person asked me…come down for the interview. This time…I wore the T-shirt…dressed myself smartly…as my cousin told me to do so last time…and of course…I got prayed to the gods…wished me good luck.

And so I went for the interview…and when I reached there…I was told to go to a room…filled up my particulars…then the person asked me questions…and he filled me up with the job scope…and told the salary offer…at that time…I was so surprised…the offer was too high. Then he said ok…he passed me a list of information that I need to know…and asked me to go down to the NCS Pte Ltd for the interview the next day. I was so happy at that time…as this was the first time…I really went to the second round of interview.

I went online to find the map of the company...as I was not familiar with the place.

Yesterday…went to Bugis with my parents…went to the Si Ma Lu temple for a pray…as I have not much luck in job-looking…so my parents hope the gods will help me find soon. At the same time…my father will be going overseas soon…going to China to study for a week…so he also went for a pray. After that…we went to a shop where the place sells those god stuff…my mother bought me a four cleave key chain…helps me to bring luck. On the way…there were many stalls selling dumplings…at least 10 stalls…seeing them feel like wanting to buy them and stuff in my stomach…haha. Then we went to OG for shopping…I wanted to buy the working shirts…but they were either not nice or not suitable for me. After shopping for two hours…we were too tired…and went home.

Today…went to nearby Queensway shopping centre…with my mother. We had wanted to buy the working shirt…but still cannot find any. Then we went to IKEA…since the renovation…I have not been there…there are no much changes…except that the place for the furniture changed a little bit. Then there are not much shop opened in there. After that…we went to anchor point…buying one stupid liquid paper for my brother. I was kind of surprised…so many people went there for shopping for the first time I have seen…I remember last time when I went with Daniel there…there was hardly any people seen there. It seems that Queenstown has suddenly revived…haha.
