Recently, my brother introduced me to watch a Japanese drama ‘1 litre of tears’. In the past, I had heard from my classmates about this drama. They said that it was a touching and sad show and I had wanted to watch this particular drama but I seemed to forget about it. Indeed it is a sad and touching show that made me feel so pitiful for the character that was in the show. It is actually a true story based on the Aya Kito‘s own life. The story plot summary goes: Aya Kito was diagnosed with a disease called Spinocerebellar ataxia when she was 15 years old. The disease causes the person to lose control over their body, but because the person can retain all mental ability the disease acts as a prison. Aya discovers this disastrous news as the disease has already developed. There is no cure. Through family, medical examinations and rehabilitations, and finally succumbing to the disease, Aya must cope with the disease and live on with life until her death at the age of 25. While watching the drama, I sometimes will feel sorry for her and it actually can make me cry. Particularly, there is one part when her classmates knew about her condition and they wanted the girl to leave the school so that she does not affect everyone’s grades and school’s lesson. And it happened that the girl heard their discussion and the girl decided to go to the disability school although she would like to continue to study in normal school. Most importantly, I admire her for having the courage to continue to go on to live optimistically despite her disability and having to accept other people’s different eyes. If I were her, I probably will try to run away from reality and not to be other people’s burden. |
